AT GALILEO WE USE THE TERM EXCEPTIONAL EDUCATION…

“The difference between the right word and the almost-right word is the difference between lightning and a lightning bug.” — Mark Twain

Galileo uses the term exceptional education, shifting away from the use of “special education” which has a history of stigma attached to it. Having a disability, gift, or talent that qualifies an individual for an Individualized Education Plan (IEP), 504 Plan, or Advanced Learning Plan is just one part of a person’s whole. Exceptionalities are simply the things that make a person unique. It only makes sense that each individual requires a unique approach to truly support and stimulate his or her exceptional capabilities.

These exceptionalities are identified so appropriate content and strategies can be implemented to nurture a child’s potential, support development, identify and target learning gaps, foster SEL development, and enhance the capability to manage mixed abilities. Whether your child has one exceptionality or is twice exceptional (having both a disability and identified as gifted) they have a unique learning profile, which can be identified and supported to promote success.
